He is also the President of JoBro Productions, a Toronto based Production Company that specializes in structuring, financing, and producing domestic and international co-productions.

SOUMIK SEN
CHIEF IMAGINEERDirector, Writer, Musician Soumik Sen in all his work questions the Why Not and believes in seeing things which the common eye may miss and the stories that break clutter. This finds reflection in his work be it the initial days in journalism or his subsequent road in the world of cinema and music. Born in Calcutta, India, to a Bengali family, Soumik studied classical music under Ustad Ali Akbar Khan while pursuing his academics. A theatre actor and economist apart, he started his journey as a journalist with India’s 2nd largest business daily, The Business Standard, before his career in screenwriting in the Indian movie industry, especially Bollywood. From 2006 he has been into screenwriting with projects like “Anthony Kaun Hai”, “Ru ba Ru” and “Meera Bai Not Out”. He is has also written the screenplay for the Ajith starrer Tamil film Billa2. In 2014 Soumik wrote, directed and scored an all women’s hinterland action film Gulaab Gang with Bollywood’s leading female actors which brought together two of the greatest Bollywood icons Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, the first and only time on big screen. He second feature the Emraan Hashmi starrer “Why Cheat India”, on India’s education system, was in 2019. He chose to write and direct his third film, and his first in Bangla - “Mahalaya” which won him the National Dada Sahib Phalke Award for best screenplay. He has written and directed India’s first web show, a mockumentary on Gulshan Grover titled “BadMan” now available on Jio, directed shows such as the sci-fi drama Skyfire on Zee5, Nakaab on MX PLayer and this year Jubilee the Amazon Prime show he created with Vikramaditya Motwane swept the award season with as many as 9 Filmfare awards and a slew of Critic Choice, Bombay Journalists and other awards. He was recently felicitated with the Pride of Bengal 2024 award by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. Right now he has just wrapped shoot on the most ambitious project of his career - a 10 episode epic about the Language Liberation War, set in Calcutta in 1970, titled JAZZ CITY for Sony Liv, which he has created, written and directed. Soumik tries to be silent, work hard, stay healthy and is learning Spanish so that someday he can meet Lionel Messi and say Gracias. And live with the philosophy of Strikhedonia - The joy of being able to say “to hell with it”.
